A BIT ABOUT ME

I am a communications strategist with more than 25 years of varied communications experience. After a successful corporate career, I turned to independent contracting in recent years. I’ve worked as a leader, a valuable team member, and as an individual contributor. I have a track record of success in marketing, employee communications, integrated corporate campaigns,  strategic event planning and management, public education, and journalism.

Bio: About

As an independent contractor I’ve been engaged in consultancy services for Commonwealth Care Alliance, Rasky Baerlein Strategic Communications, Emerson College, and the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. I also serve as communications advisor for a social services organization, helping direct and produce strategic communications to support the organization’s mission, internal change, and fund-raising campaigns.

My contract work has run the gamut from developing marketing material in support of a new health plan launch; playing a key role in planning and execution of televised debates among United States Senate candidates; serving as Board liaison and coordinator of a nationwide search for a new college president; to assisting in the critical elements of a major fundraising event, including speech writing and supporting video development
During my corporate career at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, I served in several areas of the company including marketing, public relations, public affairs, and internal partnerships. As Director of Internal Communications, I built a talented team that transformed employee communication and education into a key business process, driven by and closely integrated with corporate strategy.

Through multiple, innovative channels of communications designed to better inform and engage employees in company news and goals, we established award-winning Best Practice standards in communications effectiveness. During my tenure leading the department, employee satisfaction with communications rose from 47% to 91%.

I also managed multi-faceted campaigns to help drive the success of corporate goals. I concluded my corporate career as Senior Director of Strategic Communications serving as internal lead advisor of a statewide public education campaign to encourage individuals to become active, informed participants in their own health care.
Prior to joining Blue Cross, I worked as a managing editor of corporate communications for a software development company and was engaged as an editor and reporter for an independent weekly newspaper.

In addition to my corporate experience, I have held positions in bilingual teaching (Spanish and French) and market research. For the past fourteen years I have had the honor of serving on the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children in Dorchester, Massachusetts, a not-for-profit organization which provides a haven, life-changing programs, educational and economic opportunities to homeless women, children, and families. I currently serve as chair of the programs and strategic planning committees.
